DESCRIPTION:\nWhat’s the basis for that basis?  \n \nWith a larger and “permanent” estate tax exclusion/credit amount, income tax planning will become even more important for our clients in New Mexico.  During this presentation, we will be discussing estate planning strategies to minimize income taxes, often without unnecessarily forfeiting asset/creditor protection.   Are there ways to have a second adjusted basis at the death of the second spouse?  What if the credit shelter trust is already in place and  irrevocable?  We will be discussing these and other important issues to keep in mind in New Mexico with estates below the taxable amount.\n \nVickie is a graduate of the University of New Mexico School of Law, and earned her Masters of Law (LL.M.) in Taxation from New York University.   Vickie grew up in Deming, New Mexico and has been a trust and estate planning attorney in Albuquerque, New Mexico for over twenty-five years.  She is an ACTEC (American College of Trust and Estate Counsel) Fellow and is also a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation.  \n \nVickie practices in the areas of estate planning, tax law, probate, estate and trust administration, charitable giving, business planning and business succession planning.  She speaks both locally and outside New Mexico to financial advisors, attorneys, accountants, and others on tax and estate planning, business planning, charitable giving, planning rlated to qualified retirement benefits and legal ethics.  \n
